Sadly, a fact of life that impacts upon us as we get older, is that our energy levels begin to decrease. I note that I can no longer run a mile. Now I have to walk a mile instead. However, there are ways to assist you to maintain your energy levels as you age.
Ensuring that you maintain a regular regime of activity such as brisk walking, swimming, bike riding; or a combination of all three activities will greatly assist in keeping your body supple and vibrant. Another positive from keeping your body on the move is the increased sense of mental well being you will enjoy and the sense of having energy to burn. The danger to most of us as we age is a tendency to get very lazy, and sit in a chair to watch all the sporting activities on the TV!
Way back in the seventies (1970’s that is, not 1870’s), in Australia we used to call this the “Norm Syndrome”, after a well known government advertising campaign to get us off our bottoms and out onto the track! Norm was a pudgy little bloke whose total life was spent consuming copious food and drink while reclining on his sofa in front of the mad box….TV.
Now that’s what we must not do as we age. If you do a Norm then life after fifty will be very unenjoyable. Your body will begin to sieze up from lack of use and physical activity. Your energy levels will decrease commensurate with your level of voluntary laziness.
Get out on the path every day and exercise by at least walking several kilometres. If you hate walking then go swimming, ride your bike…but please do something to assist your body to keep moving; and maintain healthy energy levels!
In addition to taking daily exercise you need to consider making use of a high quality multivitamin and mineral supplement. Our bodies require specific micro-nutrients that are often lacking in modern food supplies. Particularly lacking may be the “B” vitamins which are essential for metabolism and production of energy.
If your body lacks proper nutrition, down will go your energy levels. Consult with your doctor or pharmaceutical consultant to ensure you take the correct combination of supplements to ensure a high level of general well being.
Keep moving. Make sure your body receives proper nutrition. The result will be a high energy level!
